Thank you Nikolyn and Hany! Nikolyn these concrete cylinders have been placed here along with rocks in order to control the damage to this historic site from the ocean and tides. I'm not sure of their official name though. Fort Fisher is an historic site from the Civil War.

I'm fascinated by the pilings. Are they part of a breakwater or something or what's left of an old fort? I see Fort Fisher in your key words. Their repeating receding shapes take me right into the image and their regularity contrasts very nicely with the stones.
